INTRODUCTION

This program provides participants with opportunities to improve their English language skills to a level that they are confident to speak and write English with ease.

  1. Module 1 - UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR
    • The basics of subject and verb agreement
    • Avoiding double comparatives and superlatives
    • Singular and plural – staff or staffs?
    • Identifying incorrect prepositions
    • Conjunctions for more sophisticated language
    • Tenses – correct usage of present, past and future tenses
    • Using has, have and had appropriately
  2. Module 2 - APPLYING STANDARD ENGLISH AT THE WORKPLACE
    • Applying polite language (use of modals –may, could, would)
    • Using correct grammatical construction using modals
    • Avoiding Malaysian English and colloquialism
    • Awareness of standard English when interacting professionally
  3. Module 3 – IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION USING PHONETICS
    • Applying phonetics for correct pronunciation
    • The influence of the mother tongue in English pronunciation “l & r” , “v & w” , “t & th” , “s & sh”
    • Recognizing silent letters in words for accurate pronunciation
    • Practice on pronouncing commonly used words with confidence
  4. Module 4 – USING SITUATIONAL ENGLISH AT THE WORKPLACE
    • The role of words, intonation and body language in spoken communication
    • Building confidence to speak in English
    • Meeting and greeting your customers – the basics
    • Asking for relevant information and giving requested information to customers
    • Apologizing politely and offering explanations
    • Giving accurate directions and clear instructions
    • Expressing opinions and ideas with confidence
    • Conversing politely with customers on the telephone
  5. Module 5 – WRITING SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE E-MAIL
    • Identifying purpose, readers and objectives of the e-mail
    • Using the correct opening and closing for e-mail
    • Writing to the point-conveying intended message
    • Using appropriate tone and positive language to encourage positive response
    • Avoiding old-fashioned language in e-mail writing
    • Writing emails professionally minus any negative emotion
    • Checking your e-mail – grammar, sentence construction, spelling

Any cancellation must be received in writing within 7 working days prior to the event else full payment will be imposed. Any no-show by registered delegates will be liable for full payment of the program fees.
