PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

It takes a lot of skill to communicate information efficiently and accurately. This report writing course has been designed specifically to help you build your business report writing skills; it takes you step by step through the principles and process involved in producing an effective report.

This 2 DAY Course is designed to give participants exposure to the content and format of business reports in English. In addition, grounding in the techniques of writing as a process will be given together with sufficient writing practice.

Course Requirements Participants should have a foundation in Business English and Grammar

DELIVERY METHODOLOGY:

While there will be some degree of lecturing, the main emphasis is on the development of awareness and skills through the extensive use of exercises, participative discussions, role-play, video sessions, and case studies.
Participants will be encouraged to share their work experiences and apply the principles and techniques to their work situations. Specific models and techniques will be introduced and applied during the various activities. Strong emphasis shall be placed on the transfer of practical skills for effective contributions to their work-environment.

    • Principles of effective written communication / Clear, concise and direct expression of ideas / The importance of positive tone and appropriate style
    • Choosing familiar words that make your meaning clear / Getting rid of the waffle that bores readers
    • Putting action in your verbs for direct, concise writing
    • Crafting short, simple sentences to increase readability Simple Compound and Compound Complex
  • MODULE 2: NOTE TAKING METHODS
    • Recognize the importance of taking notes
    • Learn different methods of taking notes
    • Develop note taking skills
    • Asking questions and gathering information
    • Note taking and summarizing
  • MODULE 3: OVERVIEW OF BUSINESS REPORT WRITING & ANALYSING YOUR AUDIENCE
    • Introduction and overview of business report writing.
    • Questions you need to ask yourself about your readers
    • Producing a clear set of guidelines on what response you want from each reader
    • Understanding different readers and giving them what they need—and in their preferred style and format
  • MODULE 4: DESIGNING YOUR STRUCTURE
    • The benefits of structuring before you start writing
    • Using techniques like mind mapping or Word Outline View to sequence and structure your material
    • Ensuring your structure supports and delivers what you want from your audience
    • Breaking the job down into manageable chunks
  • MODULE 5: PRESENTING YOUR DATA
    • Collecting information: Assessing relevance, audience, fact and opinion
    • Selecting and organizing material: Selecting information, Conciseness, Headings, Classifying and Information sequence.
    • Getting the most from your headings
    • Presenting findings: Organization, style, Ordering and reclassifying, Personal and impersonal styles
    • Organization and planning / Exercise: Group Work
  • MODULE 6: WRITING THE REPORT
    • The writing process: Main steps in writing a report.

Your Trainer

Ms. Anita Shanmugam has vast experience gained in managing people; she has also developed skills in training over the years. Her clients had benefited immensely from her coaching and mentoring. She started off as a corporate Sales Executive and later held the position of Sales / Marketing Director. Currently she is a trainer for all levels including operations, supervisory and managerial staff, both in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Having more than 15 years of experience in the training arena, she is known to facilitate her programs using very practical hands-on approach, enabling participants to relate to her teachings easier.

She has intense dedication towards improving personal and organizational performances. With a track record in the corporate/private sector Anita brings extensive experience from the corporate world and is now considered amongst the new breed of dynamic “Human Relations Trainers” blending practical concerns. She is also a certified NLP Practioner that believes you need to be able to communicate with and influence yourself, family, friends, colleagues or clients. She believes that professionally everyone needs to understand how important it is to able to make yourself understood and to effectively influence. It’s a real skill to understand and grasp new concepts quickly from others and to be able to communicate at all levels and she dedicates her time now to help others change their life for the better.

1. Registration & Fees Policy
Registration is confirmed once registration form is received via fax/email/mail. All Payments/Undertaking Letters/Local Order (LO)/Letter of Approval must be made available and presented prior to the course.
2. Cancellation Policy
Any cancellation must be received in writing within 7 working days prior to the event else full payment will be imposed. Any no-show by registered delegates will be liable for full payment of the program fees.
